Can I get some suggestions please? What would you say needs to go in the wank meme as opposed to the regular anon meme? What makes it qualify as wank, exactly? (I get that a lot of the posts that link to wank on tumblr are going to have to go here, but what else? I need to know so I can spell it out clearly in the rules for the meme.)

Hi mod! Do you think we can have a fic dump (fic discussions, fic recs, fic crits)? I know AO3's fairly got it all, but I'm interested knowing anons' opinions of the fandom's fics here. Is there a way to do that, like searching through everything with a "fic" keyword? If it's too much of a bother it's alright not to. Thanks :)

Dreamwidth has no feature that allows you to search through journal comments like that (not even for paid account users as far as I can tell). The only thing like that I've seen like that is fail_fandomanon 's archive search, and that's no site feature - it seems to be an external service...

HOWEVER there might be a way around this. I've allowed search engines to index this journal - it looks like google might be our friend here. If you refine your search using some tricks, then you might be able to dredge up something worthwhile. For example:

site:dreamwidth.org "Free! Anonymous Meme Swimming Anime" -whatever write whatever here-

I put that into google (+ fic rec, instead of whatever) and there are 7 pages of results, all of which came from either this meme or the original meme over at free_anon. site:dreamwidth restricts the search results to webpages from dreamwidth, and "Free! Anonymous Meme Swimming Anime" only brings up results that have the exact phrase written between the speech marks somewhere on the webpage. Since that's this journal's name and free_anon's name, it essentially restricts the search results to comments and pages from the swimming anime meme's.

tl;dr, if you put site:dreamwidth.org "Free! Anonymous Meme Swimming Anime" in your google search, you'll be searching the meme pretty exclusively. Refining the search from there on out is matter of selecting the right keyword's and using the right tricks. I have these three infographics bookmarked, which I use to help me navigate when using google. If you can get through those, they might help you refine your search criteria and hopefully, you'll be able to turn up what you're looking for?

I'm afraid that that's the best I can do right now. (Also I'll stop fiddling around with name of this journal, so anyone who tries to search the meme this way doesn't have to search the original meme and this journal separately.)

All I can do is ask the wankers to go over to the wank post, and delete comments that don't comply with the rules.

Fortunately, it cleared up on it's own this time, but if it happens again the best thing to do is to not respond to the bait. Just tell them to go back to where they came from and don't try to argue with their claims, because their claims are nonsensical and just trying to get a rise out of the regular memers.

I can't move the thread with all of its replies over to the ship jumping post - usually I just freeze the mis-posted comments and give everyone a chance to copy and paste their replies to the right thread, but that only works if it's done soon after the comment is posted. Instead I've froze the original comment, left the subthreads untouched and directed anyone who wants to reply directly to the original comment over to the reposted comment.

Seriously, it seems like something memers are going to have to sort out between themselves. What is my intervention going to achieve? All I do is delete comments that break the rules. In the case of this thread, if I were to rule that it counts as spam, all I could do is delete the thread or the spam comments. And I'd rather not do that unless I have to, because that's effort.

I don't think you have much to worry about anyway. As anons have pointed out in the thread itself, games like that don't work very well without usernames - if anyone were to stop and think about it before replying, they'd realise that replying is pretty pointless. (Unless the anon who made it was actually trying to do a census of the wank meme disguised as a game, I suppose.)

i have to go to work, so i can't go through the entire thread rn. i've frozen the big ones for now. honestly, from what i've seen so far, those threads are full of trolls stirring the pot & replying to themselves. it might be easier for me to just pull the plug on the entire thing - by the time i'm done i don't think there'll be much left either way.

Could this and any other thread involving the catfishing incident be deleted. Its not a joke, this whole situation jeapordized peoples safety and damaged her friends. Just because RHs are involved as a common interest doesnt make this particular situation wank worthy. Id really appreciate it if it could be removed and kept from starting again, thank you.

Okay. I've pruned the original thread to the point that it's mostly gone - I would delete it entirely but I want to leave some context behind. The second thread will be getting deleted entirely in due course. It was started by a troll whose comments I'm pretty much deleting indiscriminately at this point, because they've been fucking awful during this whole thing. I'm not sure what to do about the other two small threads - I'll go through them and see.
